Ylang ylang is heady, sweet, and unapologetically tropical: banana-floral, almost custardy. People tend to have a reaction to it, and the people who love it really love it.
Distilled from the flowers of the cananga tree, it is used in aromatherapy for calming and for its sensual, mood-softening character. It is a cornerstone of classic perfumery for the same reason.
